STEM YEA was born as an idea. Rotarians with essential skill sets combined to make it a reality
STEM YEA is a product of District-wide cooperation. Born as an idea during COVID, a few individuals formed an exploratory team. Rotarians with various skill sets joined this team to develop the curriculum, policies, and market ideas.
OUR INAUGURAL EVENT 2022
Albright College in Reading, PA was the site of our first STEM YEA Academy. We traveled to the Reading Museum Science Planetarium to see a show.
We learned a good deal from our first event, as did our students.
STEM YEA 2023
Building on the success of our first event, we agreed the curriculum designed by the SETI Institute was a good introduction to the scientific method and one that was very engaging to our students. We then fine tuned aspects of each curriculum module.
A change for 2023 was the move to Kutztown University. Kutztown has been very accommodating and showed a lot of interest in STEM YEA and has fantastic infrastructure for our STEM Camp, including a planetarium and observatory, where exoplanets have been discovered! Students have all they require right on Campus.
STEM YEA 2024
Our 2024 STEM YEA event demonstrated this is a growing event with more students than any previous year, all due to greater engagement in the District.
We continue to be grateful to Kutztown University and it staff who have been real supporters and boosters of our program. We look forward to an even more close relationship.
